Sila


Sila (Pali, Sanskrit), or Buddhist ethics, are traditionally based on what Buddhists view as the enlightened perspective of a Buddha (one who is awake). Sila is an internal, aware, and spontaneous ethical behavior, according to one’s commitment to the path of liberation. It is an ethical compass, rather than what is usually associated with the English word “morality” (i.e., obedience, a sense of obligation, and external constraint).
